How long (time) should the long run be for a 400m runner?

About a half hour.
Male: around 35-45 seconds or 300-350 meters
Female: 1 hour
Normally 20 minutes, not over 30 minutes, and mostly in the fall. If you follow Clyde Hart's seminar notes, you would be doing an optional 20 minute run only on Sunday starting in January.
20-30 minutes depends on the coach
In HS I sometimes did 45 minutes
I have my kids do 4-6 x 800 at "tempo" pace.
To calculate tempo pace, I tell them to come through 600 in their 800 PR time.

Does this replace a "long" (20+ minute) run? How many times a week do you do it and at what times of year? And how long is the recovery interval?
Sorry to pester, but I don't know too much about training for events below 800m and this thread seems like as good a place as any to start asking some questions.
