pain on inside of left knee...not sure what it is
the good news is that it hurts a tad for only the first 1/2 mile of my run then it goes away as I get into the run.

Probably rust. Try a little 3-in-1 or maybe WD-40.
Pain on your left knee or your right knee is not an issue. Pain on your Wee knee should be looked into.
pain on left knee but the inside of it. for example it hurts bit if i extend my left leg all the way flat out and tighten my left quad muscle.
by inside, I mean the right side of the left knee (if that makes any sense)
when i google it it says something about MCL, but i dont remember ever hurting it during any of my runs. it only started bothering me yesterday when i went out for an easy 5miler. past few wks i had been running about 80mpw no problem, but this thing now worries me
look up the gracillus (sp) muscle. it comes down from your groin/quad and attaches of the inside of your knee. it could also just be general quad tigthness that needs to be addressed. if it only hurts in the begining its prolly just tendonitis of some sort.
sorry for bad spelling
OK. i went for a 6mile run just now. it's on that right side of the left kneecap, either directly right and perhaps a bit above the left kneecap. I could feel it with almost every step, sort of near or just after the push-off phase. It's sort of a dull quick annoying pain like someone is poking my inner knee joint for a second.
It seems as though i can train through it but I'm not sure if it's a good idea to do so, so I'm basically still running but running less mileage for the time being.
any suggestions greatly appreciated, thanks for your help
Sounds like patellofemoral syndrome in the making to me.
Ive had the standard runners knee before but that was more right below the center of the knee cap. This is to the right side of the left knee cap.
In some ways id be very glad if it's the std runners knee as thats pretty fixable/tolerable i think
Do you think it is OK to train through?
?
if its patellofemoral syndrome, you're not going to do anything dangerous from training through it. I'd say train through and ice unless it gets worse. Then rest, ice, and maybe see a doc.
It could be patellofemoral syndrome. I have the same thing but with my right knee and the pain inside is exactly how I described it. It's when your kneecap moves because the muscles around your knee aren't strong enough. I had to go to PT for this. Try strengthening your quads, icing after workouts and knee straps help a lot too. But you should get it checked out. Be careful, I pushed it too far for too long and it resulted in a torn muscle behind my knee and I was out for over a good month.
