Wow, this is sad. I imagine the military exam is very easy.

No surprise there. I think it's common knowledge that most of the enlisted folk are there because they have no other options, not because of some sense of duty (they get brainwashed into thinking that when they get there).
I have taken the exam, many years ago.
Brings back memories.
It is easy, and only serves as a barrier for people who can not be counted on or trusted to carry ot simple instructions.
lexrex.com has a link to War is a Racket. A book everyone should read.

True, a big reason a lot of folks join is for the money, but remember: There are two wars going on and those joining are assured that they will pull a tour in either Iraq (yes, there's still fighting going on in Iraq) or Afghanistan. There's no getting out of it - if you join today's military you are going to war. And when it comes down to it, these are the men and women who are pulling the duty. If they are not going, you are going. So, if you're not willing to put in the commitment...
All you got to do is "fog a mirror".
This is a GOOD THING. Dumb people are far easier to indoctrinate. The last thing you want in an American soldier in 2010 or 2011 is the ability to THINK.
I retired after 20 years and it does disgust me..
My nephew couldn't write, read or pass any ASVAB test..when we began to invade various countries and needed the help, the recruiters called on him..Oh, they had changed their minds...
I used to see guys kicked out because they failed one event of a PT test (thus failing the test) they'd get 3 chances after 3 counsellings and if they still failed (one guy by just 15 seconds on a 2-mile run) they would kick em out!
I'll bet that dosen't happen anymore.
People who are attracted to the military usually are not rocket scientists.
Except for the rocket scientists that are in the military.
Please, don't make this about race.

what % of people in the military are rocket scientist?
Hey, its pretty hard!
Here is a sample of questions based upon a quick Google search...

why dou you think military standards are soo lax? the more intelligent someone is, the harder it is to control them.
there's a reason there are no "individuals" in the military. individuals think for themselves. if you put a group of illiterate people together, throw in some "big" words like "duty", "glory" or "country", then they feel special and are more willing to subject themselves to whatever orders may be (even if orders are irrational or immoral).
i'm sorry, but i don't envy or look at someone in the military as any more than your typical wal-mart employee. it's a job, and job that comes with blind-obediance, i don't see how commending that is a good thing.
That is exactly why we need to start the draft up again.
It really depends on the MOS, or rate. Obviously your NUKE guys are generally going to be smarter than your average grunt. Make no mistake about it though, a lot of operators are quite intelligence. One of the brightest people I have personally ever met is an ARMY SF soldier. For every bad apple there are some good ones too, just like most jobs.
That stat is extremely alarming though - if true.
Wow, those are hard questions!!

We had math competitions for the advanced math students around the area when I was in junior high and high school, and if what I'm remembering is correct, the questions given to us as 7th and 8th graders were harder than the three questions in that link. Considering I think we learned how to multiply and divide fractions and decimals in 4th and 5th grade, I would hope a grown adult would be able to.
First of all, the test stats are flawed because some high school give the test to EVERY student. That means you have kids putting down C for every answer because they don't care.
Second, the enlisted army does ask people to give up some individuality, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. We are such an individualist society that we each want to be unique and special. In reality most of us are not special or terribly unique, we just build ourselves up in our minds to be that way. The army is a way to be a part of something seemingly larger than life. It's like being part of a team as opposed to running by yourself.
The standards for enlisting were lowered over the past few years because of failing to meet recruiting standards. This has partially been because of obesity issues, and partly to compensate for a greater demand for soldiers. The standards have now been raised back up to where they were previously.
More recently the army has been encouraging officers to think for themselves and to innovate in gray situations. Some conflict occurs because there is a generational gap between the senior ranking officers and the junior officers on the ground.

(basic questions such as 2 + x = 4)?
Everyone knows that you can't add a letter to a number! Man, who ARE these military people anyway?
