You must mean thousands of years of "documented history." That thing has been edited, added to, excluded from, and translated so many times, always depending on who was in charge. Millions of people all relying on 'faith' doesn't mean anything, just a tradition carried on throughout the years. Millions of people also follow Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism.
