This months edition of ESPN the Magazine, had the following 6 people listed as this months "Unsung Heroes." Just in case anyone was curious where running ranked in the US sports hierarchy....
1. Jayson Mikula - US Lawnmower Riding Champion
2. Alison Riddle - US Lifegaurding Champion
3. Liliya Shobukhova - World Major Marathon Champion
4. Scott Waites - Grand Slam of Darts Champion
5. Matt Guy - Grand Slam of Cornhole Champion
6. Jim Bailey - International Shuffleboard Team Champion

That's because we are 'sung' heroes.
Really, ESPN sucks. They have no clue. Their view is entirely their own limited scope of 3 major American sports.
I just want to know what the "Grand Slam of Cornhole" competition entails. Seriously?
ESPN is not journalism. It's a cable TV company that sells TV ads to corporations and rents out broadcast time slots to independent TV show producers. The BCS Beauty Contest System is the same type of sales organization. Neither company are sports. Hope this helps.
i'm not sure why anyone ever thinks that running/track and field will ever be more than a D list sport outside of 4 weeks every 4 years....and even during those 4 weeks, distance races on the track doesn't even make it past the velvet rope into the club.

Prolly because it used to be big and could be again. I was around when the average person knew John Walker and Filbert Bayi, etc
