The difference in values are obvious. the two older generations value traditional aspects of life; family, traditional religous ceremonies, marriage, and goals of marriage, family, and a nice home, and being a provider. As the generations become more current you see some changes. Many do not want marriage. Waiting until marriage for sex is unheard of. Males being the agresssors is not as common, and it has become more common for women to choose life of a career over any type of family.
Events that help mold . One is very obvious. World War II. Molded your first generation listed. Unfortunatley the last generation listed could care less about that generation. The middle two generations were influenced by the Vietnam War,the equal rights of women, racial wars, and the second westward migration. This being the migration of baby boomers to warmer climates in the 70's 80's and even 90's.
The work, play differences are also very obvious, and can be seen in everyday life. The average 'gen y' would not know how to play 'four corners' or 'teatherball'. Everything that generation does is electronic and polarizing. Drive by a common bus stop. Everyone is hooked up to headphones. No communications or talking. Many people from the vetrans generation met friends or future spouses at bus stops in the 40's and 50's.
Baby boomers and Gen x can be seen more as 'tranfereing' generations. Gen x transferd society to the electronic dependent age. And, the Baby Boomers transfered the country from WWII dependent ideals to a more modern ideal away from ' keep the woman at home and in the kitchen'
Go get em kid.
