It's more the wind than the cold. Wear a pair of wind breaker pants with shorts underneath and you'll be fine for sure >0F. Never tested it below 0, if you're unsure, just stick a glove or sock in there.
If there's any doubt at all, use extra protection. Just like you, I learned my lesson the painful way.
Are you 6 years old? Figure it out. If it's a similar temp like it was out today....add more layers. How useless are you in everyday life if you can't take care of these things on your own?
ive been fine with double shorts down to about 20 degrees and mild wild, but i plan to start carrying a sock in my pocket if it gets colder just in case
I normally wear a wool sock around my member on cold days
Yes, I am a worthless 6 year old.
When in doubt.... never hurt to be a little over dressed down there.
You need wind protection to start with. Next, you need something wooly against your skin. Get one of those craft fair woolen pot holders (i.e., 4"X4") and use that for a "peter heater". This has been tested to -54C windchill.

First and foremost, DO NOT TAKE A HOT SHOWER SOON AFTER RUNNING. I know it's counter-intuitive. but you need to change immediately into dry clothing and relax. Ge under the bankies if you need to. One you've warmed up it's safe to take a shower.

Maybe your grandma can knit you one.
One Word: Runderwear
Been using it for years under my shorts after -3 Celsius
Do you guys think any permanent damage can be caused by getting your d real cold everyday? not like frostbite, not that cold, but how do you think it effects your item?
It will freeze and break off.

Doesn't even have to be wool...but, this trick works. I sometimes wore two just because that thawing is the worst feeling ever.
