Hopefully the subject caught some people's eyes, but this summer, i have the opportunity to go totally Once a Runner. Essentially, i have the opportunity to go to my cabin and stay there the whole summer and do basic yard work and landscaping. And that's awesome, i enjoy the cabin now more than when i was 14 and couldnt be away from my friends for more than 2 hours. But i still would like to get some quality training in, and be in racing shape if i decided to go into the nearest large track meet.
So my question is this, i have a sizable amount of land. Mainly flat with tree's (essentially a forest of pines and a few other trees). What would it take to build a one, possibly two, lane dirt track? Nothing fancy, just a 400 meter oval, standard. I'm willing to put in the work, but has anyone had experience in doing this? I'm sure i would need to rent a bobcat for a few days, possibly haul in dirt and maybe some gravel. Have some bricks or possibly cinder blocks (maybe even go all natural and put fallen tree limbs) as the curb.
What say you? Good or bad idea? Has anyone had experience making tracks or landscaping? Reasonable projection of time/money?
Thank you in advance
PS i plan on coming back with the 3x4x5x400m in 61-62 workout done. jokes....
