Due to my work schedule I do most of my running at 4am. There a couple of nice paved paths near where I live, but it can be difficult to see at times.
Does anyone have any suggestions how to use a flashlight while running that doesn't require holding it in your hand. I was thinking of trying to attach one to my shoe or using a wrist strap/
Wear a baseball hat with the headlamp. It fits much more comfortably and stably that way.
I've used both headlamps and hand flashlights - I've found that the headlamps give you a bit more battery life.
Here's a good hand flashlight, very small/light, but battery life isn't the best. Since it has a thumb button switch, I usually just thumb it on when a car is approaching. LIght enough and thin enough to wrap your hand around.

As for headlamps, I've had good luck with the Petzl Tikka plus 2. I've used PrincetonTec's but had two of them break on me, bad design. I've used cheapo's like the Eveready models that you get at Walmart, which actually worked well and weren't as much $$.

try Saucony, they have alot of clothes that come with a small LED light with them that can clip onto your shirt, gloves, sleeve, etc. Im almost positive you can buy the light by itself too. the light is small but bright and portable, and you chage it in the USB port in your computer, so no wasting money on batteries.
Go with a headlamp that is rechargeable and has an adjustable beam. Put it over a cap as suggested previously.
The advantage of a headlamp is that it will point in the direction you look. This is a great way to be safe at night.
