i don't really feel sorry for tyson gay, to be honest. the guy comes off as the most nonpersonable turd possible. his speeech on the PA system after getting beat at pre in the 200m made me cringe. seeing him "represent" track and field when he raced shaq on tv was laughable....never smiled...complete wet dishrag...ZERO personality. i hate to break it to him, but with bolt around and crushing in major champs, he DOESN'T exist.
I hate to say it, but I agree with the OP.
I can't picture Gay angry. Disappointed, yes--but angry, no.
For a guy who seems to be so mentally or emotionally quiet, he is sure a good sprinter.
Unfortunately, substance isn't enough--it has to be combined with at least some style in order for anybody to care. It's not just in track, either.
Heck, even Einstein had a shtick.
Maybe he should wear a Mohawk.

Exactly. If you've ever met or talked to Gay you would know that he is just a quite, introverted guy. I would rather be that then the Maurice Green/Michael Johnson type of GOAT tats and gold shoes.
Hope Mr. Gay can appreciate that his state of existence is more than the rest of ours put together. I know it'll be like I never existed until I beat Tyson, which means that I am destined for obscurity. Here's my hanky Tyson.

However, Greene and Johnson were both World Champions, Olympic Champions, and World Record-holders.
Maybe it takes that kind of personality to GET to the top--or any personality other than "wallflower".
There is a difference between being quiet and resolute and noticed for your quiet strength, and not being noticed at all.
I personally would rather be Greene or Johnson, even though Greene was a dick and Johnson looked like Admiral Akbar, leader of the Rebel Alliance...

How can you even say those things? Tyson Gay is one of the ONLY super elite sprinters who remains humble and doesn't think he's the most important thing in the world. Yeah, stuff like Maurice Greene having a guy extinguish his shoes after a race is funny, but that sort of attitude and arrogance gets old rather quickly, especially if the athlete is a dumb clown like Bolt. Tyson Gay is one of the most respectable athletes in T&F in my opinion because he does not make excuses, he does put everything he has into his races, he's a nice guy and shows good sportsmanship.
Respectable, yes.
Interesting, no.
Remember, for the vast majority of the world, track is a spectator sport. They watch for its entertainment value, of which the excellence of the performance forms only a part.
And I've found that many people act differently in public than in private. I don't know Greene, maybe he is OK in private.
On the other hand, I don't know Gay either.
I do, however, think that he has an honest shot at the WR, notwithstanding his "zero personality".

Tyson Gay is like very many runners I know (literally in their dozens) who are so good at what they do to the point that everytime they win a race, you expect more from them during celebrations but all you get is a subdued reaction.
He isn't alone. I love Tyson Gay. I hate Bolt's empty headed swagger.
