People kill for running shoes in Africa. He is shipping tons more in! Running shoe killings are going to skyrocket after this 'good deed'.

I haven't looked into Tanser's project but...hasn't all this free clothes going into poor areas decimated the local trades? Why make something to sell or open a shop if westerners are giving the stuff away?

On a rather serious note, I was somewhat disgusted by the article on the front page. While I'm glad he is helping build a children's hospital, sending shoes to Kenya seems to be a completely pointless endeavor. Kenyans have become the best runners in the world without shoes. When you think about problems in Kenya, do you think about them needing more motion control in their footwear?
And as others pointed out, we can only speculate, but sending shoes to Africa would probably increase the number of robberies. My guess is that Tanser would have been robbed no matter what, because he was an American running by himself.
Shoes might not be good for developing great running but they are good for protecting peoples feet from parasitic worms in the durt
