You have to be very careful when you you are injured and you get diagnosed with a "weak" muscle. That muscle may be "weak" when it is really fatigued and your body is telling it to tighten up to avoid more injury. Starting a lot of specific strengthening exercises may weaken the muscle even more. Rest is usually the best remedy but some massage therapy to keep the pelvis aligned can really help.
