I'm a 48 year old female who loves to run!!! It is my therapy I'd go so far to say. I enjoy long distance running and am quite competitive with good time results in most of the races I sign up for. I also do Crossfit (a strength and conditioning program). Earlier this year, after starting Crossfit I ran two of my best times for a 10k and a marathon - qualifying for Boston(which I now cannot run anyway). In about August of this year I developed some soreness in my achilles tendons which was not unusual for me, and I took the usual precautions of RICE and toned it down a little! However, it seems like overnight a lump developed on the back of my left foot to the left side of the achilles on the heel area. Of course, I am sure many of you avid runners can attest to this - I got online and started to research and pretty soon had come to the conclusion that I had / have Haglunds Deformity. Of course, I'm not a doctor but it certainly seemed that the symptoms indicated that. It has become very painful for me to run - not so much when actually running - but a few hours afterward and then the following day I might be limping around. Hence, I have not really run for about three months now (or more even) and have stopped doing any kind of plyometric exercise or pounding on my heels to try to alleviate the swelling and pain. I have had about 12 sessions of PT at my orthopedic doctor's suggestion and tomorrow I'm having an MRI. I am just getting so frustrated and want to know anyone's opinion out there, who has had the surgery and what kind of realistic result I should expect. Also, I am wondering if it would be better to just try and deal with the pain as long as I knew for sure that it will not affect my achilles, why could I not just run and try to ignore it ;) (as runners also like to do...) I'd appreciate some positive takes if you have one as a lot of the posts I have read, have been a little too brutal! :( Thanks for reading...
