Why is it that I have a much harder time doing a workout like 6 x 800 @ 5K pace (5:08), than 6 x 1 mile @ 10K pace (5:25).
Am I just more suited for the longer distances? The longer repeats are like setting my body on cruise, while the 800's create a cruel and disabling burn. Am I tapping on a diferent energy system when I dip below 5:20-5:10 pace, and if this is indeed a weakness, should I concentrate more on basic speed and speed endurance?
Does getting "stronger" eventually make one feel comfortable at 5:08 pace or do you have to do something different? I can keep on running 2:34's for my 800 repeats but how do I get faster? Will repeating the workout eventually make me more "efficient" or do I need to focus on sprint work?
