I am curious about what it takes to walk onto to one of the big three, Oregon, Stanford, and Oklahoma State? What types of times? How do they recruit? Do walkons ever make it on scholarship? How are walkons treated when they make the team?

4:15/9:10 should get you a spot on the team.
4:16-4:20/9:11-9:20... maybe
Yes, walk-on's can earn scholarships if you run well enough. If you are beating the guys on scholarship, then you will get some money.
How you are treated depends on the program. Usually not as well as the stars though. Top runners are likely to get more attention and gear (Shoes etc.)
They recruit you if you run fast enough. They also recruit from the big national meets. If you are not getting recruited, it never hurts to send the coach an email with your PR's.
Does the phrase "onto on" mean the same as "onto to"?
You might be able to walk "onto on to" Oklahoma State with your writing skills. Stanford, maybe not so much.

Would it really have taken more brain power than you can muster to realize that the OP's mistake was a simple typo (walking onto one of the big three)? Or perhaps you've never made a typo and find it simply unforgivable that someone could possibly miss a single letter on a message board post.
