Hello from iced-over central Kentucky. It's been like this all week. We're not so good at snow/ice removal. All the side streets are very icy; pretty treacherous running. I know others have it worse, but more northern municipalities are generally more equiped to deal with it.
Only managed 33 miles on 5 days of running. Four of those days were on the indoor track, where I continued a very similar pattern to last week; some progression miles, some one lap on/one lap off type running, and a lot of drills and striders. I ventured out for 7.5 miles on Friday, but I was already feeling a cold coming on, and skipped Saturday. Next few days may be a wash, too, as my head feels like it's underwater. First cold of the year; hope it's brief.
Topic: On reflection of this past year, can you pinpoint any one thing you did in your training, beyond consistency, that had the most beneficial effect. For me, it was hill workouts in the pre-season. I felt it gave me a strength-base that carried over into speed work that brought me PR's from 800m up to 10k. In the late summer, however, I overdid the speed work, and that brought what was a wonderful year to a pretty abrupt slowdown.
Hope everyone that is traveling is safe over these holidays. Look forward to hearing about your week and year.
