I'm a h'core northerner. Any transplants down there that enjoy living there? How's the running scene?

On runs, don't forget to wear duck tape over your @$$.
I live in the Nashville area and there are a lot of people to train with, regardless of your speed. What areas are you looking at moving too?
My daughter lives in Nashville. There are a number of good places to run but you may have to drive a little to get there depending on where you live.Expect continuous rolling hills - great for training - IMO. I have spent time running in Percy Priest Park (huge park, very hilly with seemingly endless miles of roads, trails), Crockett Park bike paths, Belmont Blvd & Music Row area. There is a great biking area in the west of town on Natchez Trace Hwy. Not sure how many runners train there but I've always wanted to.Nashville has a lot of traffic compared to the rural area I live. There are a lot of residential areas in which to run but some areas have a lot of traffic with no berm or sidewalks so you'll just have to see what's in your area. The local runners club is nashvillestriders.com and you can check their site for info. Good luck - great city! I'd like to live there someday but will probably be too old to run by the time I retire!lol

Running scene is pretty good, though a bit weak at the top end as compared to say, Knoxville.
Percy Warner Park is a great place to train.
Yeah, I meant Percy Warner Park. lol It's been a couple of years since I trained there.
Great weather for training for most of the year. Doesn't get too cold or icy in the winter. Summer heat and humidity can be awful from July through September, but this varies from year to year.
Not as many trails as in the north or west, but a lot of good road routes.
Thanks for all the info. Probably settling in the Franklin/Brentwood area.
I live in Franklin which isn't ideal if you want to avoid running on pavement. Running in and around town is nice and it is quick to get on the country roads west of town, though you'll have to contend with this weird biking cult. As far as trails, Percy Warner is north of Franklin about 15 minutes. You can do up to 10 miles of hilly trails (there is also a XC course though not very exciting). West of Franklin (30 min) is Montgomery Bell park which is similar to Percy Warner though not as hilly. Crockett Park (Brentwood) is nice though paved. You can get a good 10 mile out and back there -- lots of folks to contend with though. I don't see many "elite" guys running around in Franklin -- and as mentioned, the weather IMO opinion is not ideal for intense training (too hot for too long, colder than you think in Jan/Feb). If you are looking for a half/full marathon avoid Nashville (too risky for hot weather in late April, see: last year's train wreck). Memphis is ideal because it is the first week of December. Somewhat hilly but less people and faster than Nashville. Franklin HS's track is in shitty condition but they leave the gates open.
forgot to mention, I too am from the north (Chicago) and Franklin/Brentwood is as good as any place in the country to live. Great schools, cheap housing -- even in Brentwood if you shop around -- low property tax (I pay $1,200 on a 2,000 sq ft home, half acre). You can find a house in Franklin for $300K that would be double in Chicago and you don't have to deal with the traffic/winter/taxes/Cubs. Just make sure you live in Williamson County.
Thank you!
