I recently ran a 44:39 10k on a hilly course, I run 9-16 miles per week. Do you think I could run a sub 19 5km?

I am in the 8th grade.
Are you a girl or boy?
And yes. 5ks are much faster than 10ks at your age level.
No.
Boy
That depends if you are an endurance athlete or a "speed athlete". Mostly for your age group, 5ks are alot faster than 10ks but my friends brother is a pretty big endurance athlete and ran like a 48 minute 10k but only a 22 minute 5k but eh also ran 1:47 half marathon. So it depends basically if you train long or not.
Friends brother is turning 12 in March.
You'd be lucky to break 20, much less 19.
In a study of n = 1, when I started running again two years ago I ran 44:20 for 10k on a moderately hilly course and a 20:55 5000 on the track. I was running about 15 to 20 miles per week, but I had only been running for less than 6 months and I was 35 at the time.
But you have youth on your side, and probably more natural speed, so maybe sub 20 is possible. I was always really slow as a youngster.
I am an oldy.
10k 42:30.
5k 20:08
I'd have to say, not now,but one day you will run 14min 5k or faster if you train hard.
Thanks for your thoughts.
I have also ran a 7:28 2km in a cross country race, probably could have gone faster.
