Just bought a new laptop and the thing makes a strange clicking noise which sounds like a camera shutter every ~10 seconds or so. I believe it is coming from the hard drive. There are no performance issues, but I understand that a clicking hard drive can signal impending failure. What do you guys think?

it's a bad hard drive or bad main board power to SATA VCC. yes. turn it back in. the bozos didn't do a burn in. looks like infant mortality.
dude... you probably have a dvd/cd in the drive, and don't remember not taking it out.
check that.
I'd take it back and have it restored to a normal clicking noise.
