He obviously wouldn't have won. But, where would he have finished? Top 10? Top 5 maybe?
And, next...where will he finish next year? Top 5?
Dathan finished 4th in 2001. Can Lucas do better?

I think he would have won the thing....
No way. He couldn't beat Chelenga. Maybe top 3 though.
I know all courses are different but he ran 14:59 at Footlocker. The leaders a NCAA went through 5k in 14:37 and came back with another sub 14:50. And most the top 50 or so guys came through in just over 15 minutes and came back in the same. Not sure if hes ready for that right now.
One spot in front of AJ.
Hell no not top 5. A lot of those guys were i nthe same ballpark or even better than Verzbicas when they were in high school, and I doubt they got worse in college. Plus Lukas doesnt race 10ks often, if at all.
I would say top 30-50 is a stretch
LUKAS WOULD HAVE WON, HE'S THE BEST RUNNER EVER!!!!!!!!!
Look at how well he does his freshman year of college. Top 15 would be huge. I'm just guessing he'd do worse in HS than freshman year in college.
On the other hand, he basically just had to bro out during all his races this year. He wasn't ever pushed all the way, so who knows.
Didn't he run really fast in a track event last year?
he would only be top 25 im guessing
Dude can't even hold it together for a 5K. He'd explode in the last 2K. 78th place or worse.

This is what I am thinking. He might not be as physically prepared for the longer distance and he certainly wouldn't be as experienced as the college guys at running it. Ritzenhein could probably have jumped in there as a high schooler and been in the top 10, but he was a full-time runner who was up to 90 mpw as a prep.
If Lukas V. holds up through a season of the increased workload of college running, top 5-10 next year is absolutely within reason. Top 5 isn't out of the question.

Alas, if he started walking after 4,980m, he'd be in for a tough day.
how can he not hold it together for a 5k? thats how he won in 5k national events the last two weeks right... especially at nike where he was challenged almost the whole way. yes you are right he definitely cant hold it together... not.
30-35th at best. Probably around 40th.
Why does everyone think this guy is that good yet?
Joe Falcon finished 25th as a freshman and that was considered a great performance.
Matt Guisto finished 35th as a freshman and that was considered very good as well.
Ritz was 4th but that was again as a freshman in college and he had run 13:44 in high school.
The runners who place top 10 at NCAA cross are all sub 13:50 and 29:00 runners. Maybe that's where he is at but again what has he done to prove it?
He's hands down the best hs runner in the country, thats why we all think he's that good.
he's dominated hs running for 2 straight years.
no one's really come close to him. it'll be interesting to see where he finishes next year. im thinking top 10.
100+
No way top 10 unless he stops doing tri training. How's he going to compete with mid 27 guys in a 10k if he's running 60 mpw?
Bob Kennedy won the NCAAs as a freshman.
he's run 4:04 and sub 14:20 for the 5k indoors a couple of years ago. He isn't winning the NCAA's but 20-50 or so is a reasonable guess. A great day gets him top 10.

No way right now he goes straight into the NCAA meet and gets top 10. Maybe next year.
Dominating the country in high school doesn't tell you anything.
Could he run faster if he has to (faster than 14:58 at Balboa Park)? Certainly but how much more does he have in him. What's he training like? Is he doing relaxed 10k tempo runs at 5:00 pace? 5-6 times 1600 around and under 4:30?
8-10 times 1000 at 2:49 to 2:52 with short recoveries?
Those are the types of workouts that tell you you might have a shot at top 10.

Goucher was 2nd as a true freshman and didn't have Lukas' career, even less so Kennedy who was 1st as a true freshman.
