I've read over most of the previous threads on this issue and have tried eccentric strengthening exercises and a few of the other stretching and strengthening combinations suggested by others. I’d like to get a professional opinion, but I’m not really sure where to start. I’ve read many times that the majority of doctors aren’t familiar with the difference between tendonitis and tendonisis. I’d also like to talk to someone who is familiar with runners and running related injuries. Is an orthopedic doctor the right person to see? Also, if you have specific suggestions, I’m looking for someone in the NYC area.
A little background info – 24, Male, had been running 50-70 mpw for over 3 years before this setback, mid 16s 5K. I’ve had nagging pain/soreness where the patellar tendon attaches to my tibia for the past 4 months. The symptoms appeared during the middle of a pretty typical 60 min run and have never completely gone away since. Any type of athletic activity (like a 20 min light run) irritates the area.
I apologize if this is a repeat thread. Feel free to just post a link if this issue has been addressed before.
