Seriously guys, you all suck. We get it, you play rugby. But you play rugby for no other reason than to tell people you play rugby.

A sprinter/jumper at my old school used to play rugby in the fall, and he was a great guy- really friendly, supportive of people across event groups, etc.

"have you ever met a distance runner who wasn't a complete dweeb?"

They are all douches. And they only play club Rugby because they suck dick at football and couldn't play football in college.
Do many people play rugby in America?
I didn't think most people would even know what the game is

Bingo.
Rugby players are fit, muscular, drink lots, have a good time and have girlfriends.
i dont understand why a distance runner would have a problem with them......
My brother in law plays rugby and he's an awesome person.

Not really true. I played in college at Iona many years ago. I was captain of the team so I guess I was head douche. We had some douches on the team for sure, but no more than any other type of team I have ever played on. I played football in HS but I was actually in the minority. Most of the guys on the team were NYC guys, a combination of soccer, Irish football and a few ex-runners in the backfield. Some came from city schools that did not have football teams. Iona's football team sucked badly, the program is now gone, I certainly could have pumped iron and kept playing on that team, but I was done with football. Many of the football players were douches, and sometimes they would play with us in the spring, but they would ultimately cop attitudes and did not want to learn how to play correctly.
Ironically, my team had about 5-6 very solid runners. Iona was a very good team back then too. A few of us could have run XC and been below average guys on the team probably, but I will admit we were not disciplined enough, I regret it myself. It was actually pretty funny now that I think back, and I don't know how the tradition started because the big heavy guys hated it, but we used to start every practice with about a 1.5 mile jog and it would turn into a race most of the time between a few of the good runners.
