I'm interested to know what your year round training is like. At my school, we only have xc and outdoors, so my winter is very similar to my summer. I'm assuming that your guys' winter training is much different considering speed work and such. Detailed answers would be appreciated.

I never feel I can get in the same quality I do in the summer as in the winter. Its just so damn cold, yet I somehow run better in indoor every year than xc, shrug.
Sometimes it's hard to run in hot weather, maybe that's why.
Good coaches seem to treat indoor a lot like the summer, with some speed work towards the end to do well in championship meets. My high school coach was terrible, but at least it was always a fun season. My fitness at the end of cross country would carry through and I'd run fast times on this really intense track. The crowd is so close and right above you, the experience is pretty awesome.
Somewhere in the middle of the season it would wane, because we'd be doing stupid track workouts for months and you can't keep improving like that. Outdoor usually went poorly.
I coach all three. We treat winter like summer- just go out and run, get in some miles to get ready for outdoors. We race, but not every week- 1 or 2 races before New Years and 4 or so after. We occasionally have people qualify for states, but it's off of base training.
Ah interesting, so you guys by no means try to peak for the indoor championships? This is also aimed towards college guys to. It sounds kinda like I train the same way as you guys but I just don't really race ever.
We have like 2-3 indoor meets and then states. You qualify for states with a SQT yo ucan run at any legit meet. We sorta are on our own. I just get the other guys that are after school to run with me. Some of the other guys just run like 4 miels per day.
I think not having indoor is probably a benefit. You can get in real training and a quality base thats not hampered by too much racing and speedwork.
