800 1:44.9y Jim Ryun (Kansas) 6/10/66
1500 3:36.1 Jim Ryun (Kansas) 7/17/66
Mile 3:51.3 Jim Ryun (Kansas) 7/17/66
Pretty much an unparalleled 47 day period for a 19 year old. They still stand as the USJ records.

I would ask that you apply a little critical thinking towards your question.

Familiar with the term "rhetorical question"?
All of the recent threads on the greatest HS runners of all time need to take this one individual, Jim Ryun, into consideration.

Jim Ryun and Gary Lindren are the two greatest HS runners of all time.
Hard to decide between them as they both were amazing.
Where does Jeff Nelson stand on the all-time high school list?
the one true american billy mills would kick both their asses, and walk away with his GOLD medal in his pocket.
How about all those guys that won Olympic Gold at this age or younger (like a HS kid in the decathlon), including a long jumper a 200 guy, and I think that guys like Nehimiah (sp?) and Lewis were pretty good as well.

Please list "all those guys" ........Mathias won gold in '48....what long jumper and 200 guy won gold??? Nehemiah and Lewis didn't make the Oly teams as high schoolers....stay on the topic and state facts please.
I think the recent threads have been limited to XC runners, not track.

I said 'that age or younger' and the HS was in parentheses, so keep those straight. The LJ was the kid from USC who won gold in his freshman year I think yet never won the LJ in the USC/UCLA dual meet!
I think that Owens was maybe just a soph when he broke or tied four WRs in 45 minutes, although he was a year older than his normal class year (but consider the situation for blacks in the 30s and the handicaps that he faced).
