Andrew has the ability to become a legend in U.S distance running. 9:01.40 as freshman is quite a feat and to have overcome being an orphan and his other life battles is inspiring!

More impressing to me was the stats.
40 male runners at Footlocker (FL)
32 seniors
7 juniors
1 sophmore- Andrew Gardner
and he got 4th now thats impressive.
This needs a huge qualifier in that the two other top sophomores (Cheserek & Burcham) ran NXN. After watching the two races, I think Cheserek gets 2nd over Futsum. Burcham is tougher to place, but he did beat Driggs and Walden last week so it wouldn't be out of the question for him to be somewhere around Gardner at FL, but that's tough to say. Those 3 should be tough in years to come.

futsum seems like a cocky guy. great to see him get blasted.
The real question is "how old is he"?
The white woman who adopted him came on here and answered that a few months ago - do a search and you wil lfind all the info you want.
And to the other guy, Futsum was not at all cocky. He acknowledged Lukas as a great runner after the race. If any one was cocky today, it was Lucas.
Did Gardner run a pretty patient race? I think he was in dead last for the first 1200m or the race then started moving up. Really mature. Is this correct?

yeah seriously, walking the last 10m?
Andrew Gardner is a real class act! He obviously has incredible talent that I'm sure is gonna take him far. I have no doubt that he is gonna be successful in the rest of his high school career but also in his collegiate years. Even more impressive than his running is the way he presents himself. He has to be the most humble runner out there. My guess is he breaks the 4A State record of 8:50. Great race and way to represent WA
Looks like we have another Solomon Halie/Lopez Lomong situation. Sophomore? really? Take a look at this kid, he will peak in high school because he's already like 18. His name is super American sounding "Andrew Gardner" but he is strait off the boat from Ethiopia. He is probably a great kid, works hard and is humble, but not "American" like a Solinsky/Rupp/Ritz.
This is like a 6'4 220lb star quarterback in China named Chang Li, who was really born Steve Johnson in Texas.
He will break 8:50 this year, leaving two more to REALLY put it out there.

Try tony smorgawicz as first american
Surprised no one is talking about the South Dakotan kid. Who the hell is he?
That's friggin awesome. I just hope he can escape the mediocrity that plagues Spokane runners after HS.
It strikes me that most Spokane kids are running near to their potential in HS. Gardner seems different.

Yeah, that's right because Haile and Lopez both really peaked in high school, s**t-for-brains.
Nope - Smoragiewicz is from South Dakota. That's not one of the original 13 colonies. He's not American.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Rest in Peace Adrian Lehmann - 2:11 Swiss marathoner. Dies of heart attack.
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
