Will dyestat ever recover?

ESPNrise magazine and it's internet arm are focused on HS athletes as a combined demographic. Their mission is to create brand loyalty to the ESPN group of sports related companies. The top end competetive HS runners are not as important as the kids, in all sports for that matter, who 'just do it'. Building fans of ESPN from the also rans who at 30 will say-Yeah I did that sport in HS is a lot easier than providing meaningful indepth coverage. The sports magazine and TV sports show idea is an overview 230 second sound and video bites of all sports embracing and hugging them all but not bothering to tongue kiss any.

Espn is on a crusade to ruin all sports as we know them today.

Remember when boxing used to be relevant before pay per view took all the big fights. Soon, the only people watching were the hard core boxing fans. After a whole generation grew up never watching boxing on commercial supported tv, interest from the casual sports fan was lost.

Human people fighting has taken its place.

When espn tried to revive boxing a few years ago, nobody watched figuring if it was on "regular" tv, it was probably a couple stiffs fighting.

Espn is again holding sports fans hostage by starting espn 3. They buy the games to keep them OFF the local network they would have been on and then hold the cable companies hostage to add that network to the package and inflate everybodies cable cost.

I predict in the next 30 years, there will be NO mainstream sports (football, basketball, baseball, golf)

on regular commercial supported tv and people will have to pay extra to see them.

I currently have season tickets for an NBA team and I purchased the NBA league pass to watch all the games on tv but I am unable to watch the team I have season tickets to because it is blacked out on my tv. The idea is that I should watch that team on my local cable package, but because I don't pay EXTRA for the "sports" package, I do not get the channel the games are shown on. How is that for treating their best customers?

So, if you have a vibrant website with lots of traffic. And companys are advertising because of that. Why would acompany buy your website, pay possibly millions and then change everything. Espn must know their traffic has came to a halt.

Also what's stopping the dye's or someone else familiar with starting another site? Trackball is a start but, theirs no rankings or articles basically a message board.

It is possible that there was a non compete clause involved with the sale of the stat.

I had over 5,000 posts easily on Dyestat. Maybe even closer to 10k. I don't care that it's gone now though, because it had really begun to degenerate. letsrun.com message boards are good enough and have more valuable information on them if you care to wade through the trolls' baiting.

And tracktalk (or is it talktrack? I forget) BLOWS.

Dyes in the same as before with retirees and volunteer coaches doing all the work. It's for the love of the sport.

John Dye's ego knows no bounds. Check out his photo gallery from Footlocker. Rather than identify each runner with a caption, he simply puts his name down each time.

That's the thing about John Dye. He needs to have his name on every freaking page. When he isn't working with Nike behind the scenes to bring down Footlocker, he's chumming it up with the Footlocker people.

Actually we need more volunteers like you to put the names on the pictures, and help us on dyestat, milesplit, and the other fan boy sites. We travel on our on dime to footlocker, NXN, Cal St Champs, OSAA, etc. We don't get paid and do it for the sport. I miss trackshark and dyestat but I'll enjoy letsrun and track and field news. It seems everyone here and there is knowledgeable.

Dye sold to BC Sports the parent of SchoolSports back in 2004, He retained some operational & editorial control by contract. Trust me think thousands not millions and maybe a title that afforded The Dyes some travel expense reporting and tax benefits.

After that contract was up his direct voice in what would happend with the site was gone. In '08 ESPN Rise Mag bought BC Sports incl School Sports Division which owned the Dye site. There was no direct trickle down to JDye because of that sale. JDye might have had some stock like deal with BC but if so it would have been like any other stockholder in any company. That holding,if it existed, would not be big enough to swing a meaningful operational or editorial voice.

The idea that JDye was involved in the BC's strategic decision to sell to ESPNrise in any way form or shape is unfounded.

We are dealing with a very small piece(Dye) of a small piece(School Sports) of a small company BCSports that is inturn owned by a bigger but still small division of ESPNrise magazine which is a very small part of the teeny tiny ESPN Rise Media companies part of the ESPN group of companies which in turn is a small part of the Disney Companies media holdings division.

NOBODY CARES ABOUT THE SITE

So, why did they even buy it? Just to bury it? Why pay money for something and then lose all your fan base. It doesn't make sense.

No kidding. At ano one time, there were between 50 and 500 people on the site, more during national championships, during the olympics, etc. It wasn't just a handful, there were thousands of people who were on that site every day. The new Dyestat is a shall of its former self, the only thing it shares is the heritage. After all of the time that was afforded to the folks who were shutting dyestat down, after all of the talk, all of the feedback and the input (i.e. get some new software for your message boards because what you're using sucks, transfer current threads to the new boards instead of starting fresh, etc) and they went right ahead and killed it. No attempt whatsoever was made to retain the audience Dyestat had. Its a shame.

Dyestat will not recover.....and neither will Letsrun.com. We know have to many dumbass threads started like, "Would you run for a small country in the Olympics?" and "Who are the top Sophomores in XC?" and then proceed to name them all yourself in the opening post.

milesplit is a pioneer of "copy and paste" technology for results, articles and photos so they are not even in the same breath as Dyestat. sure, the idiots there know how to type in up results really quickly and then reformat. but how can they claim to be national leaders in high school coverage when the output is cluttered and the journalism is extremely unprofessional?
