My XC season ended a couple weeks ago and since then I have been "letting myself go" in terms of eating habits.
A typical day's meals during the season, when I was running 80-100 mpw, was:
Breakfast: Box of Total cereal with half gallon of skim milk and three bananas. 2,000 calories.
Lunch: Five turkey sandwiches (10 slices whole wheat bread and a package of sliced turkey breat) with carrots and hummus. Three glasses of water. 1,500 calories.
Snack: Box of Nature Valley Granola Bars with a quart of skim milk. 1,400 calories.
Dinner: Three grilled chicken breasts with a can of tomato sauce and package of frozen broccoli. 1,000 calories.
Total for day: 5,900 calories
Ever since the season ended, my mileage has dropped to 40-60 mpw, and on an average day my diet looks like this:
Breakfast: Two bagels with cream cheese, three glasses of whole milk. 1,000 calories.
Snack: Sleeve of Thin Mints Girl Scout Cookies. 700 calories.
Late lunch: Three slices of pizza and three glasses of orange juice. 800 calories.
Dinner: Usually nothing, maybe a bag of doritos from the snack machine. 100 calories.
Late night snack: Half bag of Tostitos with salsa and cheese. 1,000 calories.
Total for day: 3,600 calories.
Which type of diet is healthier? Which is better for running? Should I change my eating habits at all or keep them the same? Please help. Thanks
