do you think women will be able to ever go sub 14 for 5 000 m? the closest right now are tirunesh dibaba and meseret defar, with 14:11 and 14:12 times.

yes
definitely
With the right drugs, absolutely. PED-free, never. We already have times on the books > 13:59 for women.

Agreed. If three American white boys can run sub 13 all within months of each other (weird timing), than women can go under sub 14. The ethiopians, however, can do it drug free.
Yes, and much quickder, sub 13.30 and without drugs.
If Dibaba can jog 14.11 then Im sure she could run sub-14.
wang ran 8'06
defar ran 8'58wr for 2 miles = 8'18 for 3k off standard 1.08 conversion
defar is 1s slower over 5k than dibaba at 14'12 to 14'11
virtually certain wang wouda gone <14 if she'd run a 5k in '93
WANG JUNXIA CHING CHANG CHONG CHEAT

Yea, we know how legit those times from '93 are.

Just as legit as some other records - Koch 400m, Kratochvilova 800m, Griffiths-Joyner 100m, etc.
I think women may go sub 14. Mostly because many nations are relatively new to the sport. Therefore I think the times we have seen so far will be considered less competitive in the future.
I expect the women's marathon, half marathon (most definitely), 10k, 5k, 3k steeple, 1500, and 800 records still to go down.

defar/dibaba therefore as pure as the driven snow ?
No, not unless they are aided by using technology/drugs that are not available/legal by today's standard.
In regards to this post: maybe, maybe not. They may have even been aided further.
Yes, when Caster Semenya moves up.

I believe the OP meant women's records.

I made no such statement, I referred to the Chinese times from the early 90s. It has no bearing on the East African times set 15 years later.
That said, I sadly think you have to suspect all pro athletes. You hear about cycling's dirtiness only because the UCI and the AFLD actually try to clean up the sport.

eh ?
15y ago it was reckoned 14'30 was a damn hard barrier ( myself included ) with not even legends like gaby/sonia or paula cracking it by early '00s
now these africans are going ~ 14'10, & you have no problem with that ??
Dibaba and Defar have better coaches, who know more than others how to develop power.
