Racing in the snow

I thought spring-loaded spikes sounded like a pipe-dream, but I just came across this Inov-8 Oroc 340 shoe which has a feature which comes close:

It's a 12 oz. orienteering racing shoe, so it may not meet your needs, although there is an older Oroc 280 model which is 10 oz. Would be nice if Inov-8 made an XC version, for race courses which have a mix of wet grass/mud/snow and asphalt.

I don’t know if they have in America anything like the lightweight studded shoes that Fell racers in Britain use.

I found shoes like these excellent in most conditions, snow, mud, ice and road.

The one’s featured are made by a British company, but I believe Nike and others make similar, but not in my experience so far, quite as effective.
