2. You probably have no idea how many victims the average child molester molests. I can think of no way to compile such statistics with any degree of accuracy. That number is probably either drawn out of thin air, or worse, the result of the "therapists" having coerced convicted child molesters to confess to as many acts as possible with the understanding that their life depended on their cooperation.
I'm not saying there aren't some real monsters out there, but you're failing to observe some very basic intellectual ground rules. I have found this to be typical of almost all mental health professionals.
My statistics come from the U.S. Department of Justice. Look it up. The actual number is 117 victims across the lifetime of a perpetrator.
Yes, there are a lot of professionals who coerce people into thinking they were victims when they have no memory whatsoever of it. They are usually social workers who do not have proper training.
Being attracted to a beautiful adolescent is one thing, but ACTING on it is something else entirely. Adolescents don't think like adults. Their development and their thinking is still very immature, and since predators are immature themselves in their emotional development, they think that children act very "mature." Don't be fooled. Perpetrators often consider themselves very "moral."
Yes, sexting is not molesting. I acually wasn't talking about any coaches or whatever, I was responding to some of the stupid things others had said here. An abuse of power is an abuse of power, and sex abuse victims are groomed by perpetrators. That's how molestation works. They get victims to go along, and you would not believe the damage that does to someone whose brain is still developing (either a child or an adolescent). There are still a million things teenagers do not know an are not ready for.
Hopefully, it will never happen to one of your children so you can hang on to your assumptions and inherited opinions.
Evans had absolutely NOTHING to do with the cross country team. I know the 4 cross country coaches at BHS and they are amongst the best and most trustworthy people around. The cross country program has some of the best kids and best coaches that a parent could hope to have their kid run with.
The people calling this a 'simple mistake' on the message board obviously have not bothered to learn what this disgusting pedophile actually did. From what I have heard about the facts about this case, and I would personally like to beat beat him senseless.
I have a 15 year old daughter running at the high school. I can't believe the brainless crap I am hearing here. This child molester better hope I never lay eyes on him at a track meet, or anywhere else for that matter

some of the responses on this thread are ridiculous.
the issue of adults being with teenagers is NOT "she looked like she was 20," or "she's hot." a 15-year old may look like the hottest 20-year old on the planet, but that doesn't say a thing about her maturity level. the laws are meant to protect kids from making decisions that they may not fully understand the consequences of, or may think that they want and then later not know how to safely exit. and, of course, the laws are also meant for the more obvious purpose of protecting young children.
just because a girl may look like an adult does not mean she is.
and to the folks who continue reiterating that some teenagers look older/hot and have mistakenly hit on them, that was obviously NOT the case here. he was her coach and fully aware that she was in high school.

I've had a very similar experience to yours. I think a lot of dudes have whether they know it or not.
As weird as it sounds I almost feel sorry for the dudes that are attracted to little girls. I would be totally screwed if it was illegal to shack up with 25 year old hot chicks. I would be in and out of jail for the rest of my life. People would think I was a sicko. All because who I was naturally attracted to was off limits. It would totally suck. Obviously the guys going after 11 year olds need to be locked up and are horrible for society but am I wrong to feel a little sorry for them? Am I missing something here?
Yeah, you are totally wrong to feel sorry for them. Feel sorry for the little girls whose lives are ruined by the sick bastards who prey on them. I would KILL some man who ever touched one of my daughters or my son. I hope you don't have a daughter and still feel that way. Maybe one day if you ever do have a child, then you'll get it.
When I was a freshman in college, I was having sex with a 16 year sophomore old ex teammate from my HS xc team...should I have gone to jail?.... and she taught me a few things....
I would like to clarify that I in no way meant that what happened to me was the same thing that happened with this coach and this girl. In retrospect, what I said was totally irrelevant to the topic. When I found out her age, that was the end of it, this coach obviously knew and was completely wrong for doing what he did.
The reason I made that post was because my initial reaction was that the coach was a sicko, then I felt guilt over what happened to me, so I felt the urge to tell the story. I wasn't trying to imply that the coach simply made a mistake like I did.

You should, and you can, especially now that you have confessed to a felony. All it takes is IP trace by someone in law enforcement and if the statue of limitations hasn't expired, you're screwed genius.

That would depend entirely on where he lived as to whether he committed a felony. 16 is the age of consent in about 35 states (half a dozen of those states say only if the partner is 18 or younger, as a college freshman probably would be).
Oingo's got this one covered!

The statue of limitations?

The statue of limitations?
The antithesis to the Statue of Liberty.
No absolute minimum age for consensual sex, but rather the older person's age, divided by two, plus seven. Anything below that should be illegal, above that should be legal.
Joan Nesbit? coaching again? what?

You know, classically the rule was that a man should marry a woman of half his age plus seven years. That is to say, the "gentleman's seven" was an ideal age, not a minimum.
Do you have any idea how many of the great men of history would go to jail under your proposed law? Do you seriously believe that all sexual relationships between a twenty year old and a twenty-eight year old should be illegal?
It was a bit tongue in cheek...
Imagine a 50 year old going to jail for dating a 31 year old... certainly not ground for illegal activity.
That said, age of consent below a certain absolute age should be a function, not a set date.
