I've only been running seriously for 3 years, but it's clear my best races have been when I don't taper and just train through it on tired legs. Even in training, I run my best in my higher mileage weeks. I'm not sure how to translate this into my marathons.
I usually only do a 2 week taper, but even 2 down weeks is enough to make my legs feel like crap. Should I do a 1 week taper? Or taper differently? I usually cutback on mileage but keep up the intensity until 5 days out. I'm willing to experiment and see what works, but need some ideas.
