Is there anything to do in La Junta, Colorado?
restaurants, movies, bars, parks, pretty much like anywhere else
that website just shows banks and stuff
I had a lady friend from La Junta back in the day and I've been there several times, not a lot going on. Bents old Fort is pretty neat. There are some good restaurants, Mexico City is particularly good for Mexican food (if it's still there) I don't think there is a movies theater either. There is a nice park in the middle of town with a nice little skate park. If you're there during melon season you can eat some amazing rocky ford cantaloupe. But not a lot of action really. All this info is circa 2007, maybe the town has gotten awesome in the last couple years.
I assumed Fox Theatre was for movies. Maybe not.
Get drunk, shoot guns, screw livestock. What's not to like?
F*** some Sheep, the time will fly by and you'll feel like a baaaaaaaaad boy after.
Place seems to have much more in common with Kansas than Colorado
I've been to la junta, its a typical small southwest town. Its not quite a 1 gas town but its not new york thats for sure. Not sure about running its out on the plains, more like kansas than what you typically think of as colorado with high mountains. Pueblo is maybe an hour away there would be a lot more to do there.
There is alot to do in LJ. It has the Koshares Indian Dancers and Museum, The largest set of Dinosuar tracks in north america in some of the most beautiful canyonlands to hike in. There is Bent's old fort which is located along the Santa Fe Trail. There is Skateboard park that was designed by the same company that does Tony Hawk parks. There is a waterpark with two waterslides. Otero Museum, Otero Junior college, and numerous Basketball, Tennis courts, and playgrounds located in the various parks. Ojc has soccer, volleyball, basketball, softball and baseball games going throughout the year. The schools has football, baseball, basketball, tennis games. It is a great place to run or walk day or night. There is Holbrook lake, John Martin Reservior (the largest lake in Colorado) to fish or watch birds. There is over 80% of the type of birds in North America that migrate through here. Not to mention that it has the best people living here. It does have great restruants (El Azteca, Jodi's grill, Boss Hoggs, and Bambo Panda) as well as bars with Railyard and BJ's.
There is the Picketwire players or children Theater for plays. The fox theater for movies. The community concert series and community choir as well as Music at the Junction which has featured bands like Firefall, Blue Oyster Cult, Foghat, and Eddie Money in the past. There is numeruos events like Early Settlers and Airport Fun Day. Great place to live, work, and play
Firefall?!?! NO WAY!!!!!!!!!

hmmm, im wondering if the guy who came on here to post this nice descr isnt a runner but just googled it and it came up
It depends on your mentality. If you are going there to "experience Colorado," then you are going to be sadly mistaken. It is a blend of Mexico and Kansas, and it is at least an hour drive to civilization.
If you notice the compliments of the town, they are about migratory birds that pass through, dinosaur tracks, a park, and a theatre. Awesome.
Some people can handle that pit, but for the majority of the world, time spent in La Junta is time not well spent.
Eat delicious, delectable Rocky Ford cantaloupe. The rest of the year, not much.
la junta is at least 4100ft so if you're living at higher elevations you can get a workout in there
