You are either a troll or a stereotypical idiot that typifies why our health system sucks so bad.....and I don't usully like to call people names, but even if you re a doctor you are still an idiot.

If you were just posting quote, then I am a mild idiot, you are still an idiot and the doctor who wrote the statement is worthless.
It astounds me that people truly believe the myth that the bulk of those on welfare are worthless slackers based the fact that they saw someone they think fits that mold.........idiots. I once saw a homeless guys take a crap in broad daylight on a busy downtown sidewalk, does that mean every homeless person has no shame nd will crap right out in the open in front of everyone, no........idiot teabaggers.

Please explain why you feel this way.

Sure, one person does not a rule make. But if you dealt with this on a constant basis, day in and day out, you'd notice the pattern.

Even with a pattern in place it is a small fraction of the total on welfare programs, just like the number of evil intentionally hurtful people working in big business is reltively very small. Most people just go through their day ignorantly trying to be good people and take care of their families, even if they work for child enslaving megacorporations. Again, it astounds me that these same people, who really are just trying to be good people, need to make themselves feel better by demonizing the poor. I is amazing how stupid and gullible people are.
A person who can't afford to pay doesn't have insurance or the insurance company is cheating them out of money. The hospital has donors to cover cases like this. The business person at the hospital will ask you for your insurance information. If you don't have it or you are insured by cheaters then they will try to ask for your parents and close relatives names and phone numbers. NEVER give that information. I REPEAT NEVER EVER GIVE YOUR PARENTS OR REALTIVES NUMBERS TO A HOSPITAL. They will harass them and threaten them for payment. If you don't pay they will get the money from the rich donors. Every hospital has a huge fund to cover bills for poor patients.
To answer your question, my copay is $100.

Yep, what he said.
In the civilised world it's free.
If canada.. the main down side is that you are canadian. Which is more of a problem than any other medical issues
My little girl split her head open last fall and was bleeding enough for us to be very concerned. We took her to the ER. They put in two staples and that was that. I have an HSA or high deductible plan and it cost about $1350 total. Luckily we had enough in the HSA to cover it. But even with great insurance you will pay a few hundred.

I grew up in one of the poorest neighborhoods in my state, and my family had jack-sh*t. I know what it's like to be poor, and I know what it's like to see people constantly cheat the system. I'm not saying everyone does it, but enough people do it that it really wears on you.
Now that I'm on the other side of the stethoscope, it's extremely frustrating. Everyone wants super awesome care now, for free, right away, for free, before anyone else, for free, and if it's not entirely to their liking they'll turn around and sue your pants off.
America is a bunch of whiny, sniveling idiots. And that transcends all economic classes, of that you can be sure.

You need to stop lumping everyone into the group of people that you dislike and quit whining. You are a doctor, did you expect that now that you have an MD you get to just relax and not have to deal with people that annoy you. My God you are whiny and spoiled. You don't get paid because you earned a degree and have mad skills, you get paid to use the knowledge you've been given and more importantly deal with people's bull#$it, so quit whining.

It is not "free". Just because you do not pay for it then, does not mean that it is "free". Did the doc donate his/her time? What about the nurses? Is there rent to be paid for the building?
Wouldn't an urgent care facility have been cheaper and probably far faster assuming one is available?

I have insurance but the office is closed this weekend and the ER wasn't able to give me any cost info. Any idea what I can expect for a bill? A couple of hundred or a couple of thousands?? I know if can't be that much since there were no major tests involved but I heard ER visit can be expensive.
My last ER visit (for heat exhaustion collapse in a race) ended up running me about $2500 AFTER insurance, if I recall correctly. Of course, that included the ambulance ride as well as the ER visit. Nothing major was done in the ER, just an EKG and two bags of saline IV drip.
I do remember being annoyed at the fact that I got several separate bills for it. I kept thinking I had paid it off, and then I'd get another bill for another service (ambulance was separate from doctor was separate from saline drips...)

You're a silly boy.
And for someone who castigates others for making sweeping generalizations, you sure make a lot of sweeping generalizations.
So I found my insurance policy last night (aetna) and it said $100 co-pay for ER visits and no deductible. There might be a 15% co-insurance but I don't think in a applies to ER visits. Sounds good to me.
Exactly, Copay amount applies to all ER visits, regardless of Level 1-5. Might have to watch for the ER physician charges however, since all ERs outsource physician staffing, basically to reduce liability / malpractice costs. For ER visits you have both facility and physician charges, which in few cases are not bundled.

They don't give a damn if someone else loses money. All they care about is that it's "free" from their persective.
