Can't believe the men will not race until October. Hopefully, Sisson, Grinaker and Comfort will be in action for the women next week.

September is for training not racing. Teams every year race fast and look great in September and then fall apart in November. The goal is to peak in late November.
Interesting to see Wisco is going to the Dellinger invite. That wil be a good early season test to see how they stack up nationally
Mick Bryne knows how to coach athletes to perform their best at the NCAA Championships. I think the Badgers will be just fine without racing until October.
I think there will be 6 or 7 ranked teams at the Adidas meet in Madison.
With 12.6 scholarships, how does Wisconsin get so many distance runners and traditionally have such a well-balanced team as well? I know they have reciprocity for in-state tuition with bordering states, but what else? They always have way too many studs to be able to afford them all!
Well, I would guess that the strong commitment to distance running over numerous years has built a tradition that few schools have. When you go 11 for 11 at your conference CC meet and to the November big dance and finish in the top 10 for 15 years in a row is a huge statement which potential recruits can't ignore.
Mo Ahmed for TOP 15 at nationals!
Wisco improve to sixth at NCAAs with Mr. Hatz

wisconsin only has reciprocity with minnesota
Hahahaha, they will do better, but without Hatz
Michael Brice Big 10 Co-runner of the week.
Yeah he came from nowhere and could be #7 on the team right now. Especially if Hatz redshirts. If Connor takes the next step and gets up there with Darling and Krause and Peacock returns to '08 form UW could be a podium contender. I know I know, if my aunt had a #@!# she'd be my uncle.
Nobody races enough...if you are a cross country fan, better not blink, it's over.

Agreed.

Who exactly are Wisconsin women's "top" runners? They had A LOT of runners at NIU today... they couldn't have held out more than like 2 or 3 runners? Sisson & Grinaker basically? They act like they're so great, but who else do they even have besides Sisson & Grinaker?
Yes Sisson and Grinaker. Then Caitlin Comfort was 10th at big ten xc last year and 3rd in the 10k at big tens, 1620ish 5k pr. Then Ashley Beutler was 15th at big ten xc 2 years ago but redshirted last year, scored in the mile at indoor big tens. Then probably those two freshman who were ahead of everyone else at the NIU invite. I'm not sure after that, but there are heaps of freshman on the team.

You do realize that EVERY Wisconsin runner in the meet link that was posted is listed as a freshman which is obviously very unlikely. I know at least a few of them are seniors and even fifth year seniors. Not sure why they all got listed as freshmen.
The article linked above has 8 of the top 13 Wisco runners at that meet as frosh, so it's a pretty young team. The girl who finished 2nd overall and 1st for UW was the Illinois state champ in XC and 3200 last year...
I would imagine these races are auditions for spots 5-10 on the travel squad.
