Vin has a much better situation and far more power at Oregon than he would as head of USATF. Why in the world would Vin want that job?

That would be a demotion for Vin Lananna.

Me hopes she doesn't get it.
I've been around over paid execs before and Logan pulls in a crazy amount of money per year for what he does...
Also, what does the Adidas meet at Icahn have to do with USATF? Isn\'t that a Golden League event that has nothing to do with USATF? That\'s probably why it is a top rate event.Adidas Icahn is run by Global Ath/Mark Wetmore. The smelly Icahn stadium is all he can muster for T&F. The meets there are have 95% Jamaican immigrants in the stands. in NYC white folks rather go to tennis matches and golf tournaments. Wetmore couldn\'t get a crowd at Mt Hood CC in Portland, nor could he muster AEG/Home Depot to finish construction of the Home Depot in Carson, so he moved the Adidas meet to the sewage dump at Icahn. The God of T&F just won\'t give Wetmore a break !
What exactly can Logan do in one month that denotes "marked improvement?"
Vinny wants the USATF job. There's more to life than puny pissant Hayward Poppy Fields with only 14k seats ;-) But Vinny doesn't have CEO level experience to get us the $billion$ deal with the NY TV Execs, NBC, Toyota, Time-Warner, GM, Samsung, etc.
I don't think anyone wants the job....which is why it took so long to fill it and Logan got it.

In salesman's terms, he has to show 'leads', 'prospects', that will lead to sales. Then he has to 'book' the sale.
That means he has to show the board that he is in negotiations with CBS, ESPN, etc. to have major USATF TV programming.
He has to show the board that he is in negotiations with major corporations such as Sony, Samsung, Epson, Omega, Toyota, Ford, Walmart, Microsoft, etc. to serve as primary sponsors.
He has to show the board that he is in negotiations with the State of New York to upgrade Icahn Stadium, the City of Los Angeles to build a permanent USA Olympic Sports stadium, the City of Seattle, the City of Portland, the City of Indianapolis, etc.
....
One minor problem--Global/Wetmore didn't run adidas when it was at Mt Hood and Lewis & Clark in Portland; it was Paul Banta! adidas made a mistake by pulling away the sponsorship away from Banta and taking it to the HDC in Carson.

Adidas/MtHood was good in the early days but as all meets in Oregon it\'s in the middle of nowhere where there is a small population base. Adidas needs major media to sell products. There\'s none of that in out-of-the way Oregon. Adidas wanted big crowds in a big city but they picked Carson after AEG showed the the world class Home Depot Soccer and Tennis stadiums. But AEG tricked Wetmore and never finished the stadium. It\'s still under construction with temporary bleacher seats and no plumbing. Next he Adidas moves to Ichan and Wetmore finds out he\'s tricked again. The stadium is build in a sewage dump. It stinks bad there. Only crazy Jamaicans will show up.

Which is exactly why Adidas opened an HQ in...Portland, OR.
I'll take it...
You effing jackoff. Adidas HQ is in the Fatherland.
The head of Major League Eating should be offered the CEO job at USATF. The dude is a magician. He took a bunch of surgically enlarged fake food pigs from Japan and USA and turned it into a $100M TV Empire. We need that dude. Buy him an office building on Bundy & Olympic in West L.A. and turn him ah-loose on the Hollywood TV execs.
"You effing jackoff. Adidas HQ is in the Fatherland."
It is you who is the jackoff...he obviously meant the N. American HQ, which Portland is for Adidas.
you mean adidas has a warehouse in portland to exploit cheap mexican labor to keep costs down.
Wait. Adidas is made in Vietnam, the arch rival and historic enemy of China (where Nike exploits children). How is Adidas's human rights record ?
Are there key performance indicators (KPI's) for USATF?
# of members, # of Olympic medals, #/hrs on major network/cable, sponsor $'s, yada yada?
Logan may not be THE MAN, but Hightower is certainly not THE ANSWSER.
There are a lot of people talking out their ass in this thread.
I honestly have no idea what Doug Logan's exact responsibilities are. These should be spelled out in his contract or in the USATF governance manual. Hard to evaluate how he is doing without knowing that.
Just as an example, though, USATF is not in control of most of the meets, promotors are. I'm not sure its fair to blame him (or priase him) based on how the Ichann meet goes.

No way. The way things work in unhealthy nonprofits is that the board does what they want from the outside; they don't care about day-to-day operations. Hightower and others on the board can get their ego fed and act imperiously by being on the board and living the rest of their lives, and would have no interest in going to an office every day and having to deal with things like finding the money to buy a new copier and going to the kitchen for employee birthday cakes and motivating low-level staff and picuyane stuff like that.
