This guy (a 2:46) marathoner got support from his employer to qualify for the trials. Anyone out there think he can do it?

Japanese bomb pearl harbor!
no. End of thread.
Yes but only if 1. he cuts back on running and starts crossfitting 5 times a week and 2. finds the right fuel and water belt/pack so he doesn't have to stop at the water stations.
I wish my employer would do that. Better question - can he at least put a dent in that, get in the 235-240 range, and keep up with some of the elite women?
He won't better his PR before the trials. He's like a Walter Mitty of the running world. If he wasn't blowing his alpenhorn to the running world about his quixotic quest, I wouldn't be ripping on him. He's a charlatan.
the anagram is: pipe dream. Damn, I'm good.
well done sir
Don't be hatin'
I'm gonna do it.
Jason..just do the work and give it your best..anything can happen with the marathon..you'll have good/bad training/racing but don't give up..your capable of it.
Nate
Keep in mind that I went from 2:44 in May 1989 to 2:23 in November 1990. 21 minute improvement. Can this guy improve by 28 minutes and make the Trials?
It's up to him and him alone.
His life is his business, and not our business.
My only advice to him is to quit worrying about his shoes and drinks and small stuff like that and just train hard.

"Therein lies the reason why I don’t run with sunglasses. When the race pictures come back, I look at each and every one to see the look in my eyes. Ideally, I have a focused, determined expression. Sometimes I’ll look tired or like I’m struggling, which is an understandable expression, especially if it is late in a marathon."
Sacrificing comfort and eye protection so he can "analyze" his race photos. What a guy.
this is one of the best blogs I have ever read, this guy has NO chance, hes an assclown.
The problem isn't so much that he's pursuing his dream for me, it's that he doesn't seem to have realistic expectations - not to mention, he's presumably making his coworkers pick up the slack so he can have a customized schedule.
The guy has already billed himself a "potential olympian," but its highly doubtful he'll even qualify to run the trials. What about a 2:46 marathon and a 15:5X 5K makes him think he's got a shot at this? Where are those 27 minutes just to make -the trials- going to come from, and then the other nine or so probably necessary to qualify for the London team? Again, nothing wrong with having a dream, but he's not even remotely close and is already considering himself partially there.
You're not even capable of proficient English.

I sense sarcasm in your words. CrossFitting isn't a joke. The guy who ran 2:03.59 crossfits. And last ime I checked you can't even break 2:30. Am I wrong?
will wearing his singlet be suitable attire for work now?
Who is this 2:03.59 crossfitter?

He is a potential Olympian in the sense that he is both a human and a citizen of a country that competes in the Olympics. As such there is nothing stopping him being selected for the Olympic team (save failure to run an Olympic standard)
You're being semantic. If you're viewing his situation from a reasonable frame of mind, and not one nit-picking at what "potential Olympian" might or could imply, he means or thinks that he has a shot at making the Olympic team. Simply being a "human and a citizen of a country that competes in the Olympics" alone does not in any realistic sense qualify him to be a potential Olympian.
A marathon runner who has demonstrated that he can compete with the best marathon runners in the US can call himself a potential Olympian. Your semantic analysis diminishes the accomplishments of these runners who have demonstrated Olympic capabilities by lumping their potential together with this "ass clown's", as someone correctly put it.
I'll put it as plainly as possible to avoid further difficulty: several posts on his blog (notably the one about his stupid pink singlet and shoes), his general "know-it-all" tone, and many excuses for why he has not measured up to his potential all make it difficult to support him because he seems to be confused about his current running ability.
