Since a pint of Ben and Jerry's (phish food) has well over 1,000 calories, I would guess he/she consumed more like 4,000 calories, maybe more.
In my experience, I ate the most when I trained hard and then tried to control my eating to lose weight. Sometime later in the day I would fall off the wagon and get incredible food cravings. I once ate a 10 piece bucket of Kentucky fried chicken in about 30 minutes. The sad part is I didn't even feel full! This was after a 2 hour run and very little food after.
