Where else in Canada is it possible to get/order cheap shoes?
Here in the US, www.runningwarehouse.com has good prices. I see that they ship international. I don't know if that would be any cheaper for you.
It's tough to get shoes mail ordered in Canada because most on-line retailers won't ship to Canada. The manufacturers have separate distribution agreements with American and Canadian retailers. Free Trade hasn't hit shoe-town yet. It also seems that Asics and Running Room are married at the hip as about the only place I can get DS Trainers is RR and at an inflated price compared to US retailers. I spoke to a manager at Sport Chek about getting a pair ordered in and he said that Asics hasn't released DS Trainers for distribution to their company.
For adidas you can check out :http://www.shopadidas.ca/index.jsf?_VCM=1277119851491. I did manage to get a pair of adizero Tempos shipped from the US this way. Probably cause RR won't stock them.
An alternative is to set up a maildrop at a UPS store in the US - Buffalo, Minneapolis or Seattle depending on where you are. You can set it up online and by mailing 2 signed forms - perfectly legal.
Then you have a mailing address in the US. Almost all retailers will ship to these addresses. If you incur customs duties, it is most likely still cheaper (not sure about this - I will find out myself in 12 months).

Buy from a local running store and help out some small business that caters to your passtime!
Those replies were really helpful, even with shipping I can save a lot of money. With exchange shoes seem about 2/3rds the price across the border.

Supporting the local running store every 2 months gets old quickly when one is at the stage in life where they can still be seriously competitive, but are making minimum wage.
