Unknown, unexpected Chris Simers age 29 from Colorado ran side by side with Eric Blake until a half mile to go. 18 sec difference. 1:00:22.
A Bronx Ethiopian won the women's. Ridiculously good weather.
Tom
It's actually "Siemers". He's a D2 all-American from Western St and ran a 2:22 marathon at 5300 ft in Denver. His brother Art is the coach at Colorado School of Mines and has run 4:01 for a mile and 2:18 for a marathon. The guys can run.
Can we get a top-10 men's and women's? Or, at least the top 6 and 4 (WMRT qualifiers)?

Are we so sure "she" is a woman? She beat several elite men (and yes, I've done mountain racing and realize it's a whole other beast). 1:08 by a woman, 2 minutes faster than some of the best women mountain runners of all-time, is sick.
Her brother was not allowed into the race because he had been suspended for drug use in the past.
Tom
So where did Alene race this weekend?
thanks to bob teschek for many years of stewardship of the race and for putting up with the headaches

She did not.

Yes she did. She beat a 2:14 marathoner (Jeff Eggleston), a 13:38 5K and elite steepler (Luke Watson), 1:04 HMer (Malcolm Campbell), and mountain runners Tim Parr and Shiloh Mielke. Dave Dunham's ego must be hurt from getting beat by 2 women this year.
random much?
How hard is it to get in this race? They have a lottery but if you run a solid qualifying race can you bypass the lottery? If you take the lottery route, what are the odds you'll get picked?
I think the lottery is about a 50% percent chance (they get about double the apps as number of spots). I lotteried twice and got in both times. I believe their guidance is that if you can provide results indicating a likely top 10 finish they will let you in as an elite.
Anyone have PR's or recent results for the guys who made the US team? Looking at the results of this race doesn't really tell you much.
2009 marathon times for half the team
King 219 at ny
siemers 223 at Denver
Blake 223 at Boston
too bad Watson 215 or Eggleston 214 didn't make it
Joe grey ran a fast at 10k but Ricky gates has mount Washington pr from 2009
is this going to be a qualifier in 2011?
Eggleston and watson made strong attempts to make team. But the field was loaded, guys who have been on the team before didnt even make it. Max king who has been known as a good mountain guy was dominated by a few guys
The race was very warm so many of the athletes suffered, timmy parr probably suffered the worst, as a former team member to not even beat the top girl has to suck. Ricky didnt perform as expected either, I saw a few blogs from runners that said he would win hands down.
Tim parr will be back
what blogs did you look at?
