if you are the same OP as the guy who complained about getting chronic achilles tendonitis in racing flats (i think you are, same name) then please don't waste your money on newtons. you already are putting too much stress on that tendon and running in a newton will only exacerbate your problem. buy a shoe with a (gasp) higher heel. you can still toestrike but your achilles will not have to stretch as much and you can relieve quite a bit of pain that way.
like the speedstar? thanx
So what does everyone still think of the Newtons? Why are there so many varied opinions on them? Do they have a lightweight racing model? I'm a longtime minimalist (mostly land midfoot), but I may have the opportunity to try a free pair soon-- hopefully I'll know in the first 10 min. whether I like them or not.
Injury free since I bought my first pair. The publicity says they don't wear out. They do.

I use them for most of my mileage. Love 'em. I was already a forefoot striker before I bought them; they felt great right off the bat. The Distancia is their lightest weight shoe (at 8.6 oz, I think). They also have a new model coming out soon that will be lighter yet.
They're not for everybody, but I love them. Got about 500 miles and still going strong. And not all their shoes are $175. They also have a couple models at $140-150. Still expensive, but not more than the Kayano.
Why are they not for everyone? Is it how you run? I've done so well for many years in lightweight shoes, so this will be interesting to see what I think. The only time I went back and tried a beefy shoe (Brooks Launch) I couldn't run more than 10 min. in them cause they hardly let my feet flex. I could feel added stress on my joints.
