He was living/training in Boulder for a while, and was attempting a comeback. I don't think things worked out as planned, and he moved back to FL
Try links to Jacksonville Florida racing. Doug who does most of the work would know.
JL owned the loop course record for a while @ 2:09:35 from 1997 in Chicago, & ran what I believe to be a somewhat aided (someone help me here) 1/2 marathon in 1:01:43 in Austin Feb 1998. Was an AA on the track for Boston University in the 10K, don't ask me what year ( same yr that Falcon won), sould have stayed on the track for a while longer to develope his skills, IMO. Made the qualifiers in the O-Games Marathon Trials, 92, 96, 00. To answer your question, yes I remember him.
I remember that NCAA 10k he was in. Dude had this crazy long mohawk and was leading a lot of the early going. It was hot and slow and turned into a last lap duel between Falcon and Chris Brewster from Michigans. They were FAST over the last lap.
Boston University must have had a hell of a cross country team back then but I don't recall. At that NCAA track champs alone they had the top 2 finishers in the 5000, Lawson in the 10 and I'm pretty sure they had a guy around 8:40 for the steeple as well.
Maybe they had the proverbial "no fifth man"
Didn't he lose his scholarship because he took road money? First time I saw him was at Peachtree. Had two ponytails, one high one low, dyed pink. Pink Brooks outfit and racing flats. And many, many earrings.
I remember him talking about training with some crazy-assed Kiwi named Callum, would that be the one looking for him? Send me an e-mail address and I'll let him know you're looking for him.
I read about him once in a magazine article. Didn't look at many running magazines for a long while. But I was surprised to hear he ran faster times.
Anybody know how he ended his career? Did he get injured or worn down? He used to hit up to 180 miles a week if I recall.
If I rember right, he got a coach. Got away from the style of training that had got hem to the point he was at. And in about two years was done.
Hmm...i dont think so...during his prime years he was coached by jack daniels...(jtupper) i do believe. Unless jack has more to say about this, he got slower because he got older, nothing more.
Good lord, you make it seem like Lawson was running decades ago..just how short is your attention span people?? or are you all just 15 yrs old???
he was running decades ago.
Jerry was a sub 30 minute 10k runner as early as 1985.

I teach at Jerry's first college (Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY). We're known as The Hawks. When JL was running for us (great team) the entire crew wore mohawks. I don't know if that's what started the "interesting" dressing, but that's when I took notice. It is interesting that JL still holds the school's 5k record (14-something), but that eventually he would run the marathon at nearly the same pace. He usually comes back to the area each summer to do the Boilermaker 15k (he's from Chittenango, about 40 minutes west).
