"Omaha Beach Landing in Saving Private Ryan. Hand held cameras, off color, made it feel like pretty real footage"
-second vote for this.
QUI GON JINN vs. Darth Maul was pretty good
I know this will probably get no love, but I like the end scene in Tears of the Sun
All runners should see Frank Dunne's battlefield run in "Gallipoli."
You all should also see:
Weathering the depth charges in "Das Boot."
Pretty much every battle scene in "Stalingrad."
The attack on Pearl Harbor in "Tora! Tora! Tora!"
The rainy scene in "Seven Samurai."
D-Day in "The Longest Day."
Pretty much all of "Black Hawk Down."
The charge of Ft Wagner in "Glory."
The castle assault in "Ran."

Yeah, what, all 5 secs of it?
Yes to many of above. Also, the taking of the hill in Thin Red Line had some intense scenes.
I nominate the air cav assault in Apocalypse Now, the final 15 or so minutes from Full Metal Jacket, and the assault on Brecourt Manor from Band of Brothers.

this one is unreal....right down to the concubines stabbing each other when the castle is burning
"Kagemusha" had similar scenes...
A lot of great nominations so far. Two I can think of that have not been mentioned are the Pickett's Charge scene in Gettysburg and the scene at the end of Platoon when the outnumbered Americans are overrun by the Viet Cong.
The King Arthur vs. Mordred (his son) scene in the final battle of Excalibur is intense. Not 'kick-ass' intense...more 'holy crap that's really messed up' intense.

Saving Private Ryan --> opening battle on the beach, WWII vets say it is far and away the closest depiction, in film, of how that battle really was.
Also, Paths of Glory. Kirk Douglas is walking through the trenches( with his game face ) preparing to lead the troops out of the trenches onto the battle field where they get hammered. Stanley Kubrick knew how to film.
Manner gegen panzer (part I of III)
the first battle on the beach in saving private ryan is awesome, but i actually like the last battle where they try to save the bridge the most in that movie.
This one is good to (not saving private ryan)
Dread Pirate Roberts vs Inigo Montoya
The fight between the two strippers at the end of The Player's Club. Pretty intense.
news team battle in Anchorman
