The best for specifically the 800
then also, what's the best for a guy who does the 800, but also some 4x400
thanks

victorys
victories
any more suggestions?
for an 800/400 guy, it is certainly not the Victory. The best spike for that would be a rigid plate that extends 1/2 or 3/4 the way back. Probably the best spike ever made for the 800 is the current Maxcat. With a very close second going to the Celar from a few years ago. The Victory is a great miler spike, but for the demands of an 800, you need more of a rigid platform to push off of.
Timerberlands.
You guys are probably going to kill me for suggesting this, but I like the Asic's Turbo Phantoms. It's a great long sprint spike in my opinion. Especially if you open your 800 with sub-55 or so.
thanks for the replies. I've also considered the maxcat II, but if nick symmonds wears the victory, why shouldn't I? (If I'm going for specifically 800, not 400/800)
just cause uncle nick does it doesn't mean you should do it
if nuncle jumped off a bridge...
@OP... Symmonds can wear the Victories because (a) he doesn't race as often as typical HS or college runners; (b) he gets them for free from Nike, so if he stresses the flywire too much around a tight turn in a 400m race, he doesn't pay $110 to replace them; and (c) he's sponsored by Nike and it is their flagship spike.
I would second the Maxcat (preferably the original if you can find it), or the Turbo Phantom. Both have a stronger material on the upper to withstand the higher forces put on the spike by sprinters, but are not too stiff/aggressive. Maxcat is lighter and more flexible, and Turbo Phantom is stiffer.
