Got that one on tape from when ESPN Classic was a decent channel.
I'm going with the 1936 Olympic 1500.

This was awesome! The pace was brutal from the outset, looked more like an 800 than a 1500, thanks for the post!

Mills 10k in Tokyo.... can't beat that kick. Would also want to hear the American announcer's reaction...
Brilliant!(And the photo at the finish is always etched in my brain.)

We swopped everything - tall tales, punches, playing cards, early motor cumbustion prototypes, our wives . . . but especially the lead.
I know the results would shame your average Ethiopian shepherdess, sacre bleu, but they were different times then. (No, really).
He dropped the world record by 30 secs but then his brothers had him practising marathons at an early age, while I was carrying rather a large moustache. In fact King Gustav hung a medal on it.
Then this Serbian patriot appeared just as I was heading towards Antwerp. In every way you could possibly imagine.

Mile of the Century - Bannister vs Landy '54 CWG
2nd - Keino's '68 1500. But only if I could 1) know he was ill before he ran 2) see him roll on the ground in pain during the 10k and still finish 3) get out kicked in the 5k for silver 4) THEN take off at altitude against the most formidable 1500 runner of the decade.
In that context, Keino's race was unreal. All guts (literally - he had a gall bladder operation shortly afterwards).
The Tokyo 1964 10,000 meters race was an amazing race in an amazing Olympics. It was the first Olympic final I saw in person and was even more memorable because Coach Bill Easton kept jumping up out of the seat in front of me. It was late afternoon on a day that had some rain in the morning so the track was damp. I wrote in my programme that Clarke, Wolde, Mills and a couple of others "ran together all the way and cut the field to pieces". At the start they were setting a world record pace.
On the day of the 5,000, the weather was miserable. Shortly before the race I realized that the lady beside me was shaking due to the cold and rain. I said that I thought she should go back to the hotel. She said her son was running in the 5,000 meter final so she couldn't. That is how I found out that Bob Schul's parents were in the two seats to my right for his great and thrilling race. I have nothing written in my programme because of the steady rain that afternoon.
Tokyo 1964 was a great Olympics! Did you know that the United States men had at least one runner in the top six in every running event in that Games?
The 1968 Olympic 200m: John Carlos and Tommie Smith...

Bauman's kick in the 5K.
Devers missing getting her final step down by millimeters that would have allowed her to dive across the line instead of before the line.
The lapped Moroccan trying to get involved in the 10K.
Fantastic 4 X 100's and 4 X 400's.
No rabbits, just hard nosed competitive races across the board. And since the OP asked for one race:
Cacho in the 1500. Passes on the inside with 200 to go. 70,000 go absolutely nuts. The roar when he assumes the lead is deafening, even on tape. You can almost see the hair on the back of his neck stand up, his eyes big as saucers, looking back what seemed like 50 times, and adrenaline bringing him home.
Legendary mile relay anchor legs at the Texas state track meet by Johnny "Lam" Jones, Roy Martin, Sammy Dierschke, among others.
Agree with all of these.
I'll add the Trials from two years ago. Wish I would have been there to see the three Oregon boys go 1,2,3 in the 800.
Also, I heard Hitler ran a hand-timed 4.3 40-yard-dash in the summer of '35. Would love to see that.
Either 1896 olympic marathon with Spiridon Louis chugging wine during the race, or 1908 marathon in London. Was Al Trautwig doing the broadcast back then?
