I didn't run on the 1st Jan 2010, but on 2nd Jan here in New Zealand I went for a 25km run. Hot day so waited until later in the afternoon.
Started out ok but stomach a little unsettled, but that isn't usually a problem. Did a couple of laps of the park and headed out on the first of 2x 9km loops over some hills. Came down the first major hill and stomach still not feeling good. Going up the next hill I felt the need to pass wind but was a little worried that it might not be purely gaseous.
Sure enough as got to the top of the hill there was a sound that must have been heard across the street... that's not good I thought, but a long way to the next toilet. Spent the rest of that 9km loop clenching my butt in the hope that anything liquid might not travel too far...
I made it back to the toilets and things weren't anywhere near as bad as I thought... quick clean up and the next 9km loop was considerably more comfortable even it my knees were a bit sore on the downhill parts.
Note to self... on night before upcoming 25km race don't drink beer.
