As I have suggested, to attract Japanese runners today, you might create a Japanese language university, and try that.

Haven't you ever heard of a little thing called Pearl Harbor?!?!?!?
We don't want those types in our colleges, pure and simple.
mcain's ass is still sore from the ass raping he got along with 1000 POWs. if the u.s. didn't come to asia in the 1850s and rape and murder millions, mccain wouldn't be a cripple now from 1,000s of butt humps in the hanoi hilton.
Why are there not more Japanese runners in the NCAA? We have a laudable college system academically, and it seems that there are many Japanese students studying here. Why do they not compete collegiately in our system? To the average Japanese, the U.S. is considered an untamed wilderness inhabited by barbarians and wild savages. The U.S. has countless meth labs in every small town, numerous crack labs in every big city, guns carried by people in holsters, rifles carried in truck rear windows, White police shoot Mexicans and Blacks for fun, gangsters do driveby shootings in every inner city. There are mass murders of police, and the police shoot unarmed children in the back. It's too dangerous for the average Japanese. They enjoy the advantages of living in a 2600 year old, tranquil, civilized, courteous, and hygienic society.

...lol
excuse my ignorance, but are japanese born runners good enough to compete with the top runners in the NCAA?
also what's their national 1500, 5k, 10k records?
how do they compare to americans?
thanx.
Honestly I'd have to agree. Violence and perversion is out of control in the states. I would not reccommend to any high school students in Japan to apply to a a U.S. school. Canada has no guns and is fine though.

Why would someone from Japan come to run and go to school in the U.S. when both our collegiate running system and education system are sub par (at best).
The answer is: they wouldn't and don't.
Our education is sub par to theirs and our collegiate running system is not very good at developing distance runners. Especially for the longer distances, which is where many Japanese interest are.
Are you just making stuff up to hear yourself talk?
A degree from a major US university is a big deal even in Japan. It is difficult to get into some Japanese universities, but once you are in, it is a big party. This is the same for South Korean and most Asian schools, the focus tends to be on the selection process. Lots of Japanese go to school here, especially for graduate school, our secondary education system is one of the few things the U.S. still does well.
Also, Japanese university athletes do receive great support, but I would not say it is a better system than the NCAA if you judge by performance results; excluding the marathon, which our college athletes don't run. The reasons why more Japanese athletes are not in the NCAA is what several people have already stated, for one, they have a great system at home; being a star runner for your school is like being a star basketball player and it is better ticket to good job at a major corporation than a degree. Second, most of your top Japanese H.S. 1500m runners can't break 4 minutes and U.S. universities don't recruit long distance runners. And, the third thing is language; try to learn Japanese and you will get the point.
That's completely false. The top students go to the Imperial Universities. The dumbshits try and try for years to get into a school then giveup, learn English and apply to foreign countries. It's better than nothing. You only live once and have to do your best. Shikata ga Nai !
yeah, but at age 18, you know how hard it is to learn a new languagE?
What in the FCk is an imperial university. Anybody that can breathe can get into a Japanese university.

You are absolutely wrong!
The Imperial Universities are Japan's best and they are very good schools, but by all accounts, even the two best Imperial Schools, which are the University of Tokyo and Taiwan University are not in the top-20 world rankings. The only non U.S. school that appears in the top-20 on most lists is Cambridge in the U.K. Like I said, the Imperial Universities are very goods schools, but the most difficult part is getting in. Most people around the could not name one Imperial University, but a degree from a top U.S. school is universally recognized. Schools like MIT, Harvard and Stanford are full of the sons and daughters of Kings, Gov't officials, national leaders and the wealthiest people from countries all over the world, in fact, several of Japan’s prime ministers attended U.S. universities or perhaps you would prefer to call them "dumbshits".
Btw, you don’t need a negative to make a positive, the fact is, “the Imperial Universities are very goods schools”, but to make your point, you did not have to imply the best universities in the U.S. get Japan’s leftovers. It is a well known fact that to get into one of the Imperial Universities is very competitive, the exams, the level of discipline required and the overall process to get into the Imperial Universities is so daunting that by the time kids get in, they are burnt out.
It is no mystery why the U.S. has great universities, for one, a major university requires lots of money, which the U.S. has lots of; Princeton University has equipment used to conduct High Energy Experiments that would exceed the budget of some nations. North Carolina State has an actual nuclear reactor on its campus. Other advantages U.S. universities have is language, being an English speaking nation allows us to draw the brightest students from all over the world.

When I was running in college there was a gorgeous half-asian girl on Harvard's team, looked Japanese.
Nobody in Japan cares about or considers foreign schools. Imperial U's were started by Emperor Meiji to train government bureaucrats to for new democratic and modern Japan, sans caste system and Samurai rule. Children aim 1st for those schools because they are Japanese. NT and Seoul are no longer Imperial U's since after the Pacific War concluded.

Taiwan National was an Imperial University?
Interesting.
At least in Taiwan, the work does not stop in university. These kids bust their asses - the workload is crushing. They would kill for the chance to study abroad.
the metric in Japan is "Japanese". The metric in China, Taiwan, India etc is "The World". Hence, the latter's interest in US schools, whereas the former could not care less.
You have no idea what you are talking about. 1000's of Japanese students go to American universities every year, far more than the nobody you cited. Many of them go for a year or two on exchange programs from their Japanese university. Especially woman choose U.S. universities because American universities give them a future other than serving tea to the male co-workers.
An example of how wrong you are is the emperor's daughter-in-law, the current princess graduated from Harvard and the current Prime-Minister received his Ph.D. from Stanford.
Not trying to be an ass but I just googled best universities in he World and there is a lot more than one non USA university in the top 20. In fact there is only two USA universities in the top 5, four are English universities (two tie for 5th). There are universities from countries such as Australia, Canada, and Switzaland. Having said all that the top University from Japan is 22nd.
From my observation runners in Japan are very well looked after by corporations so I would imagine the incentive of that is probably why (not the sole reason but a very strong reason) the Japanese stay in their own country rather than moving to the NCAA.
American people still think that they are the center of everything, but in Japan and China at least, few think so from my experience living there. Keep in mind surveys can be designed ahead of time to satisfy the target constituents as they often are (JD Power IQS, BCS football are two of the most infamous example). Also remember Japan's Imperial U's are for Japan, Japanese children are Japanese, nobody cares about foreign U's atall. More Chinese study in Japan that anywhere else but China of course.
You obviously have never been close to a Japanese university if you think they have any academic credibility...
Really, are Japanese children Japanese?
And to say it again, the Japanese "princess" and the prime minister both went to American universities so I guess someone cares about them...
You obviously have never been close to a Japanese university if you think they have any academic credibility...I have. But you are obviously a Japan basher from the Clinton era who have never been to Japan.
