Time finally caught up with Sureyya Ayhan and they did the right thing, banned for life
The former European 1,500m champion Sureyya Ayhan, now known as Kop, has been banned for life from athletics after failing a drugs test.
Traces of the steroids stanozolol and methandienone metabolites were found in a sample the athlete gave in 2007.

Just that she will be missed on the circuit. Her style and looks were second to none in women's middle distance running, and she looked very feminine and delicate away from the track, dressed in street clothes. A beautiful woman. Check out the pics.
It is surprising what she achieved coming from Karaman in Eastern Turkey, a highly conservative region, not far from the Syrian border. She often had to hide when training so as not to get unwanted attention. A very brave girl.
She may have been naive. She took the stuff, because she was basically forced to do so by her coach and entourage.
One has to feel sympathy for the girl.

I've got to agree with the ghost on this one. Ayhan is as hot as hell and it's a real shame that she will not be competing anymore. She took drugs yes, but it is likely that the majority of elites taking drugs do not get caught and pay the penalty. Paradoxically this situation does not seem very fair. Besides philosphically speaking, taking drugs to run faster is no different from running 100 mile weeks to try and run faster. The true Corinthian spirit of competition would involve just to lining up and racing without any specific training. Then natural talent would be at its most transparent.
Ayhan and Tomashova were both druggies. So, the real World Champion in 2003 was Welsh Woman Hayley Tullett.
She won't ever see a Gold Medal. So maybe she should have a special one made for her, from Welsh Gold?

Interesting perspective - when I was in HS I did a modicum of running (a few 3mile runs a few times per week) and was perceived as a cheat by those who didn't do any training, when it came to the school intramural XC meet.
The true amateur spirit was about natural ability, not the "professionalization" of training, coaching, etc. Sounds like "Chariots of Fire" all over again.
