Has anyone ever used this to treat a stress fracture?
Has anyone ever used this to treat a stress fracture?
i haven't but my husband used it for a fracture of the navicular bone.
it said 20 minutes a day but i think he used it double that amount.
the surgeon who prescribed it was kind of skeptical but actually admitted at the end that it speeded up the healing.
I used it for a Cuboid SF. Couldnt tell you if it helped or not. Be sure that your insurance pays for it before you commit. You dont want to buy it on your own.
I used one, and it cut my recovery time from 8 weeks to 4 weeks.
I already talked to the rep and they said it would be covered. When you guys were recovering, did you do any other cross training. I was swimming and biking for a few weeks, but then my doc said to stop for 4 weeks and let my body recover.
i used one for a tibia sfx but i was still out for almost 12 weeks. but the long healing time might have been because i was using the elliptical.
using it again for a metatarsal stress fracture now. doctor said i'd be able to start running again in 4-5 weeks. it's been 4 1/2 now and i'm definitely not ready to run yet, despite wearing a boot and doing nothing but pool run.
so no, didn't seem to help me much. but who knows if my injuries would have taken way longer to heal without it.
I bought one off eBay for $250, and have been using it on an anterior tibial sfx. I've had symptoms for 18 weeks total. I tried to cross train through the first 8 weeks without success, had another false start after taking time off and then gradually returning to running, and now for the last four weeks, I have done nothing except one session per day with the Exogen.
I can't say if it will speed up the healing or not, but at this point, I will do anything to just get it to heal, period. Not many studies have been done for stress fractures. Usually, the studies are done with non-union fractures. Anecdotal evidence is that it is helpful or neutral. In other words, it can't hurt. Good luck.

where is the fracture? my husband ran and rode on a trainer and running when he broke his wrist. we did some hiking too. the navicular bone is known for taking forever to heal and he was in a cast for 15 weeks so i can't a doc telling him not to exercise.
i would think crosstraining actually helps speed the healing because exercise increases the blood supply to the fracture.
its below the ankle
I am a sales rep for the ultrasound machine and have seen great results in treating patients with tibial stress fx. Docs prescribe it all the time. I have set up several college BB player and X-country athletes who swore by it as did the docs. Definitely use it.
I was able to do somethings, like ride a bike.
I even was able to do the Stairmaster while in the boot.(Im not sure I recommend that tho).
Im not sure why you couldnt pool run, but Im not a doc.
I have one I used to heal from planters plate surgery. I do not need it anymore. I paid around $500 for it. I will sell it for $200 shipped if anyone wants it. It is a Exogen 2000 with two full bottles of gel.Works great, like new. Email me if interested. tjsermo@bellsouth.net
