I am high school 400m and 200m runner and pr\'s are 21.8 200m and 49 400m. For some reason my start/acceleration is very, very bad. Also, my stride length is very short and I do not exactly have a very “powerful” looking stride, although my top speed is very fast and I have been told I have the top speed of a 10.5 100m guy. Some of my weight room bests are:
360 squat
235 bench
34 inch vert
9’6 broad jump.
I am 5\'10, 165 pounds. My coach has had me doing accelerations with an elastic band to help hip mobility. Also, I am extremely inflexible and I think I have poor hip mobility.
Can anyone help explain what are some causes as to why my acceleration is so poor and how I can improve these parts of my race?
