It bothers me more when people say it in the middle of sentences, and then keep going, and then say it again.
I had a very brilliant and beautiful girlfriend from Texas whose one vocal peculiarity was how frequently she asked "do you understand what I'm saying?" I always understood what she was saying. She was insecure and had no reason to be. I tried to help her with that.
Maybe you gave her reason to think you were dumb and she therefore felt she had to spell everything out for you Barney style.
Next time someone says "you know what i am sayin'" say to them "Yea, I speak English."
I agree it’s annoying, but why does every thread degenerate into people calling each other stupid?

Yeah right? Know-what-ahm-sayin? Know-what-ah-mean?
What about Stephen A. Smith always saying, "At this point in time..."
The worst: "I went to the store, you know, to pick up some cigarettes, you know, when I ran into Joe, you know, and you wouldn't believe, you know, what he said about, you know..."
It could mean they don't think you're a very active listener, so they are checking in with you to make sure you heard what they said. Or they could think you're not very intelligent, so they are checking to see if you understood what they said. Or it could just be an annoying habit that people have.

Cuz they voted for Trump.
I work with a guy named Jerome who says "ya heard" after every sentence.
